How to write a good blog post! | GUIDES #1

After two hours trying to work out what to write about, I’ve worked it out: Write about writing! So here are my top tips on writing a blog post!

Step 1: Get a good topic and title to write about – it could be something in the news, a tutorial, anything!

Step 2: Nail that opening paragraph – facts show that 80% of people only read the first paragraph, so get a good first section and people will read on!

Step 3: Write! Write in drafts first, then type it up onto your website.

Step 3a: If you use WordPress, use plugins like TinyMCE Advanced to spice up that blog post with better formatting!

Step 4: Once you’ve finished your draft, put it into Grammarly to see what you can do to make what you think is English, actual English!

Step 5: Give it to someone else, or a group of people to proof-read it, because even computers miss things!

Step 6: Schedule your post for about 15 minutes ahead, so you can also schedule your social media to post a ‘New blog post!’ post the second your blog post goes live.

Step 7: Sit back, relax and watch the views arrive! (use something like Feedjit to get a real-time view of who’s visiting)

So, get blogging!

Summer. What does that word mean to you?

Oh, the Great British summer can mean many things.. rain, sun, cloud, thunder and lightning, but luckily, I’m sat outside on a camping chair listening to Chillhop Summer Essentials 2016 and 2017 struggling to read what I’m writing. Yesterday it was just rain. And so was the day before that.

Holiday’s nice though – I can see the beach, and it’s a great photography location, but I haven’t been able to edit any nice ones yet – coming soon on – ‘soon’ meaning when I get a good enough (and not limited) internet connection!

Introducing: photos by pixelflow

Hey there!

You may, or may not, know that I like photography – and this is the official announcement of the first addition to pixelflow:

photos by pixelflow’

You may have seen this around other places – for example – it’s been in the main menu of this site for a while now.

Now, I hope you go and stare at the beautiful photos that are up there! Oh, and they’re all free to use with credit as according to the CC-BY-ND 2.0 license.

Have fun – I upload more all the time!

I really need to start posting more, don’t I…

Nevertheless, I’m back again with another post! This time, it’s about games. But not any old games – Xbox games; my favourite ones.

I rate games on these factors:

Looks (graphics, design)

Interface (how easy the menus are to navigate)

Story (what the story is like)

Controls (how easy the game is to play in the easiest mode)

Concept (how good the main concept of the game is)

Overall (just how good the game is)

So, without further ado, bring on this post’s game!

Skate 3:

A game about skateboarding – and an old game, to be truthful – first released on May 11th 2010 – 7 years old! But it’s still one of my favourite games – and my favourite ‘originally-released-on-xbox-360’ game.

Looks: 7/10

Interface: 9/10

Story: 8/10

Controls: 8/10

Concept: 9.5/10

Overall: 946/1000

Why? This game is a classic – 7 years old, but it’s still one of the best games out there. The graphics only look about a year old, the interface is super easy to use, the story’s good, but it does take a long time to complete. The controls are easy to pick up – very easy, in fact – and the main concept is great. Overall, this games scores a very nice 946 out of 1000 in the pixelflow hall of game fame!
Cya next time,

pixel-tech: top 5 commands for Linux (BASH)

I sometimes wonder how many people know how to use a certain command, eg:
ps -al
And that lead me to think, what commands are useful, but are maybe not used as much as they should So I’ve made a list of the top 5 most useful commands for bash command shells – mostly Debian– and Ubuntu-based Linux distributions.

  1. ls -alls shows the files/folders in a director while the syntaxes (correct spelling for plural of syntax?!) – -al – mean all (show all, including hidden files), and list (output in a list showing details including permissions and size) respectively.
  2. ps -alps lists processes, and the syntax is the same as ls – show all and list.
  3. sudo – Linux users, this probably sounds stupid, but sudo isn’t used as much as it should and if you install Debian (when i last did, this was correct), sudo isn’t installed by default! You have to sh to become root and then do apt-get install sudo! Bonkers!
  4. sh – so useful! Along with being able to become root, you can also use it to change users in a CLI. (Command Line Interface)
  5. (last but not least..) cowsay or xcowsay – A surprise – do sudo apt-get install cowsay xcowsay and when it’s installed, type cowsay Hello! and go from there (note: xcowsay needs to be ran in a desktop enviroment terminal, not an SSH window, or a CLI.

May the 4th be with you, Always..

Happy Star Wars Day!

What are you doing for May the Fourth? Dressing up as a Jedi? Playing Battlefront for ever? Whatever it is, I hope you have a massive day of Star Wars!
What surprises are in store for us all today? Maybe DICE and EA will give us loads of credits? Maybe we’ll get a reveal about an upcoming Star Wars movie? I don’t care how they are, just have a great May the Fourth!

Hey there!

Firstly I want to say that the previous Battlefront II post is about the teaser trailer. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to know that until yesterday (Saturday 15th) and haven’t had time to update that post. And won’t. Probably.

So, let’s get on with it shall we; Battlefront II FULL TRAILER. Right here. Right now:
Oh and did you know: The trailer is currently #2 on YouTube Trending right now, just behind The Last Jedi trailer (blog post will be in writing after this!)

So, what does it contain and confirm for Battlefront II?

  • The single-player campaign is based on a book called Star Wars Battlefront II Inferno Squad, which sounds really cool!
  • Inferno Squad is an elite Imperial force unit which is led by Iden Versio.
  • Iden is the person we will be playing as in the campaign and will be spanning from right after Return of the Jedi to about 30 years later into The Force Awakens. The book will be about four years before ROTJ so we can see how Inferno Squad was formed, how they got to know each other, and why they, or at least Iden, has a connection to the Emperor and wants to avenge him at all costs.
  • The campaign will offer the chance to play as major heroes from the Star Wars galaxy, confirmed are Luke Skywalker, Kylo Ren, Rey, Maul and Yoda. I think it’s going to be like in the movies, swapping between the two sides, but Iden will be the main person, and we will be playing mainly as Imperials/First Order.
  • Something to know is that there is a new planet coming to Star Wars through the book and game called Vardos, which is Iden’s homeworld and is a planet that willingly joined the Empire, and was brought in by Iden’s father, Admiral Versio. When people speculated the planet in the teaser was Mandalore, it isn’t. This is Vardos, with the red trees and imperial posters everywhere. It was described as an ‘Imperial Utopia.’ at Celebration.
  • It looks like Vardos will contain quite urban gameplay, which is something we didn’t really get in the last Battlefront very much, apart from Bespin, so that will be really cool.
  • Before I start talking about the multiplayer stuff, I want to bring up the release date: 17th November 2017. Like, so close to my birthday! Well, I know what I’m getting for my birthday then!
  • If you pre-order the Elite Trooper Deluxe edition, you can get it on November 14th, and with EA / Origin Access, you can get it on November 9th.
  • We do know that the multiplayer with have full-out space battles, and will span across all three eras. They didn’t show clones in the trailer, we only saw Yoda and Maul about to fight, but in the panel, they actually showed a picture that had a Battle Droid in it, which unfortunately I cannot find.
  • Something that is coming back from the original Battlefront II is classes, and based on pre-order information, there will be four classes at launch: Officer, Assault, Heavy and Specialist.
  • There will also be ship classes, so (assumption) there might be different TIE classes: Bomber, Striker, Fighter, Advanced. Interceptors etc.
  • Everything is going to have customization and progression – classes, heroes, even weapons!
  • According to the pre-order pages, there is a standard version and a Deluxe version. If you pre-order in general, you will get The Last Jedi skins/looks for Rey and Kylo Ren, and ‘epic ability modifiers’ for the Millennium Falcon, Kylo Ren and Rey.
  • ‘We see the word ‘epic’ around a lot. This probably means the rarity of these items. This leads on to a comment I saw on a YouTube video:
  • ‘Epic is the rarity of the abilities and modifiers… where do they use this wording? in microtransaction loot boxes… and that is why there is no Season Pass. They are going to turn this into another one of those slot machine RNG loot box games that will turn out to be a huge money sink or huge time investment if you want to grind through it. R.I.P. Season Pass, R.I.P. Premium … had to happen eventually and now we are getting the next even worse thing. So, there are apparently abilities inside those RNG boxes and that means this is gonna be Pay 2 Win. This is what you people asked for each and every time you complained about Premium and Season Pass… hope you will be happy with this now’ – [ZeroB4NG] commented on this.
  • A reply on that comment said‘[ZeroB4NG] hopefully it will be purely cosmetic but that is a very valid concern.’

I must agree – I would rather have to pay £30 extra for a season pass than having to pay for a random way of getting items. At least with the season pass, you don’t waste money. That is my one downfall of this new game.

If we move on to the official Deluxe Edition page, we see this:

‘Charge through the grand corridors of Theed City with the A280-CFE blaster rifle instant weapon unlock, with additional scope modification for enhanced zoom capabilities. As an Assault, use the epic grenade ability to split your grenade into three separate grenades, covering a larger area of damage. Including*†: – Elite Officer Upgrade Pack: Blurrg-1120 + enhanced grip modification Battle Command epic ability – Heavy Metal Upgrade Pack: FWMB-10 “”Megablaster”” + barrel vent modification Personal Shield epic ability – Armored Assault Upgrade Pack: CR-2 + trigger modification Grenade epic ability – Master Specialist Upgrade Pack: A280-CFE + scope modification Laser Trip Mine epic ability.’

The Blurgg-1120 is Hera’s gun from Rebels, the A280-CFE is Cassian’s gun (from Rogue One), the FWMB-10 is a heavy repeater with a mount that the heavy assault troopers use in TFA, and the CR-2 is the gun that the Royal Naboo Security Forces used.

I think that these ‘Epic Abilities’ are basically Star Cards, as we see the Personal Shield, Grenade and the Laser Trip Mine all put before them.

We are not getting a season pass, instead, they are going to use micro-transactions. Personally, even though I have never bought the pass.

    Now finally onto the planets:

Hoth, Endor, Tatooine (specifically MOS EISLEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), Naboo, Kamino, Starkiller Base, Jakku, Takodana, Yavin 4 and of course Vardos, the new planet through the campaign!

So, thanks for reading, come back soon and I’ll see y’all later!

Whoa, I am sooooooooooooooooooo happy – we’ve seen it early! The Star Wars: Battlefront II trailer leaked! To my understanding, the official EA Star Wars twitter account, @EAStarWars, tweeted it for a few seconds then quickly removed it as if my accident. I feel quite sorry for whoever did this and for EA too…

So, I whacked this together in Word as soon as I found out: (everything in bold is what I am not sure of)

This is the PS4 Trailer – maybe more/fewer features in XBOX trailer. What other platforms will it be on?

Type of Imperial Trooper – not seen yet in films, familiar to Krennic’s Death Troopers. – ‘I still remember my last order’ A woman says, presumably player followed during campaign, stands below Death Star II as it explodes on Endor. ‘The day the real war began.’ is said while we see a not SF TIE Fighter fly though the Death Star rubble.

Next we see ‘THE UNTOLD SOLDIER’S STORY’ on screen, then a shuttle (name not found anywhere, will search more) fly through hyperspace, with the woman piloting. We next see at least 3 Star Destroyers trying to shoot down a squadron of X-Wings

Then we see a battalion of TIE Fighters (some might be SF, not seen anywhere) fly away from the platform where General Hux launched the super laser on Starkiller Base.

After, ‘FIGHT MULTIPLAYER BATTLES’ comes on-screen, which we knew, as the previous Battlefront (EA, 2015) has multiplayer.

We then see some AT-ATs walk down on Naboo? for about half a second, with the woman saying ‘Avenge Our Emperor’ then into my favourite shot of the trailer, the Millennium Falcon being chased by two standard TIE Fighters on Takodana.

Then Hoth, which has AT-AT walkers maybe striking on a Rebel base, with rebels on Tauntauns smashing into some snowtroopers. This is cool as it most likely means that we can do that too!

Then some confirmation: ‘ACROSS ALL ERAS’! Yes! So, Prequels, Clone Wars, Original Trilogy, Anthology films and sequels!

And the Darth Maul on an unknown planet ignites his dual-bladed lightsaber and gets ready to fight Yoda (#confirmed, I am) then into Rey running on what looks like a forest planet, so Endor, Takodana?

And finally, Kylo Ren looking behind him in what seems to be a First Order building.

To close, we get a poster that says STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT II, EA and then ‘Pre-order to get Star Wars The Last Jedi heroes’. Now, that’s a mystery on how that works, or what this even means, hopefully our questions get answers at SWCO soon.

That was quick, you can see the trailer for yourself here: or here:
